Not an Ordinary Thursday

Today is Thursday, but it’s not just a normal Thursday, today is Maundy Thursday. In the little bit that I grew up in church we never really observed Holy Week. Matt took me to my very first Good Friday Service 5 years ago when we were dating. So, when I first heard Maundy Thursday I honestly thought they were saying “Monday Thursday.” I thought maybe it was just the last service of Holy Week (you know Monday thru Thursday) before the Good Friday Service. Clueless…completely clueless.

Today I know that Maundy Thursday is a remembrance of the events that took place the night before Jesus died. For more specifics you need to read these verses.

Matthew 26:20-30
Mark 14:17-26
Luke 22:14-35
John 13-17

So, mosey over to your bible or open I new screen and do a little searching.

Notice some repetition? Yep, Matthew, Mark and Luke all focus on the Lord’s Supper and eating the Passover Meal. John focuses on the words of Jesus and His washing of the disciples feet. John also gives us some of my most marked (I write in my bible) passages like. “Peace I leave with you; my peach I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27). And of course John 14:6: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ ”

Most of the time I can’t say that I love all the old hymns, but I thought this one needed to be shared for today.

On another note I feel as if I’ve received a little confirmation in regards to my journey through the devotion I read this morning. This comes from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

I have promised to meet all your needs according to My glorious riches. Your deepest, most constant need is for My Peace. I have planted Peace in the garden of your heart, where I live; but there are weeds growing there too: pride, worry, selfishness, unbelief. I am the Gardener, and I am working to rid your heart of those weeds. I do My working in various way. When you sit quietly with Me, I shine the Light of My Presence directly into  your heart. In this heavily Light, Peace grows abundantly and weeds shrivel up. I also send trial into your life. When you trust Me in the midst of trouble, Peace flourishes and weeds die away. Thank Me for troublesome situation; the Peach they can produce far outweighs the trial you endure.

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17
